Dedication: The 12 Dates of Christmas
Every girl should have a friend who is closer to their mother’s age than their own, someone is a mentor as well as a friend, someone who isn’t afraid to correct them and help them grow. My friend like that is Lyn Pickering.
Lyn was my youth leader’s wife. She’ll be the first person to tell you that I took a while to grow on her. I was obnoxious and drove her crazy, but eventually she came to like me. We would stay up late talking on mission trips or youth retreats. She taught me to sew, bake bread, and how to make the best grilled cheese sandwiches.
On top of all that, it was Lyn who first encouraged me to write. Between me and my friend, Meghan, we turned Lyn from a non-reader to an avid reader. One day Lyn challenged the three of us to write our own stories. I took the challenge to heart and began to write. When I shared what I had written with them, they were both so encouraging that I had to keep going. If it hadn’t been for Lyn, I may have never started on this journey.
She has been a tremendous support to me and recently has been my sounding board for marketing. She’s come up with ideas for me to try, is willing to make contact for me, and even took my spot at the ChristKindlMarkt while I had rehearsals and couldn’t be two places at once.
I would not be the person I am, the writer I am, without Lyn. Thank you for being my friend and support. I love you, Man!
